WHAT IS Why CATHOLIC?
Heard about the Why Catholic? program but not had the chance to try it yet? Have questions? Need some answers? After Masses the next few weekends, you will see persons wearing a “WHY CATHOLIC? ASK ME” sign hanging from a lanyard around their neck. They are waiting to help you, so ASK those questions that keep popping up in your mind! SIGN-UP WEEKEND IS FEBRUARY 11-12. DON’T MISS IT! |
Our small communities are a great way to get to meet new people and make new friends. Small Communities will be forming later in February. Care will be given to organizing groups geographically, hoping to help folks meet close to home. This season of Why Catholic? will focus on Chapters 7– 12 of the first faith sharing book: Sacraments of the Catholic Church. Schedule some time in Lent for spiritual renewal! | |

February 5th 2012 - Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time |
On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you." He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come." So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee. Mark 1:29-39 |

In Sunday’s Gospel we hear of a great number of suffering people seeking the healing touch of Jesus. He could not respond to them all. But the Gospel also reveals Jesus, after praying in solitude, sensing an urgency to proclaim the Good News of his Father’s redemptive love to those who suffer in the nearby villages and towns. Stewards are called to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, to respond to those who suffer with compassion. How are we responding to the suffering in our world? How are we using our gifts to continue the works of Christ’s redemptive healing? |
